An ordinary datacenter proxy gives itself away before the first request is even sent. A site looks not only at the IP and the browser headers but at how the network packets themselves are built — and sees a Linux server in a datacenter, while the browser has just introduced itself as Windows. This plan closes that gap: packets from our addresses look the way a real Windows desktop sends them.
What a passive OS fingerprint is
Every operating system has its own handwriting in TCP/IP: the initial TTL, the window size, the set and the order of options in the connection-opening packet. Windows, Linux, macOS and Android fill them differently. Tools such as p0f read that handwriting silently, without sending anything back to you — hence «passive». It cannot be faked from browser settings or an antidetect profile: the fingerprint is produced one level lower, by the kernel of the machine your traffic passes through.
Why it matters
- Consistency with the User-Agent — the browser says «Windows» and the network layer says the same
- Anti-fraud systems — a desktop browser on top of a server OS reads as automation on many platforms
- Antidetect browsers — they replace everything reachable from user space, but the TCP fingerprint stays out of their reach
